Use Claude Managed Agents with Your Intervals Training Data
Connect Claude Managed Agents to MyTrainPal's MCP server on an active Plus, Pro, or Coach plan so Claude can read and manage your Intervals.icu training data.
MyTrainPal exposes a paid-plan MCP server at https://mytrainpal.app/api/mcp for active Plus, Pro, and Coach users. Add that URL to a compatible MCP client, then complete browser sign-in and OAuth consent with your normal MyTrainPal account. The client can then query your connected training data and, when you approve the corresponding scopes, create, update, or delete athlete records on demand.
What this unlocks
A Claude Managed Agent is a long-running agent you configure once on the Claude Platform and then invoke from chat, a schedule, or your own tooling. On its own it has no access to your training history. MyTrainPal's MCP server is the bridge: after you authorize a compatible client with OAuth, it can pull from the Intervals.icu account you already connected in MyTrainPal.
The practical value is that you can build one agent for weekly training reports, another for pre-session readiness, and a third for race-specific analysis — all reading the same underlying data without copy-pasting CSVs or screenshots into chat.
- Read recent activities, planned sessions, wellness entries, and load metrics through MCP.
- Create, update, or delete supported training records through authenticated MCP write tools.
- Authorize in your browser instead of copying a personal credential into prompts or configuration.
- Trigger the agent manually, on a schedule, or from your own scripts.
How to connect a Claude Managed Agent to your Intervals data
Add the MCP URL in your compatible client, then complete the browser authorization flow with MyTrainPal.
Copy the MCP endpoint from MyTrainPal
Open MyTrainPal Settings on an active Plus, Pro, or Coach plan and copy the endpoint URL: https://mytrainpal.app/api/mcp. Make sure your Intervals.icu connection is already active — the MCP server serves the data that MyTrainPal has synced.
Add the endpoint to a compatible MCP client
Configure the client with the exact HTTPS endpoint. It discovers MyTrainPal's authorization server automatically from the MCP protected-resource metadata.
Sign in and choose access
When the client opens your browser, sign in with your usual MyTrainPal account (password, Google, or Apple) and review the requested permissions. Read access is the default; write, management, and coach access require additional consent.
Generate the agent from a plain-language prompt
Use the Claude Platform agent quickstart and describe what you want in plain language. Include https://mytrainpal.app/api/mcp explicitly in the prompt so the generated spec wires up the MCP server block correctly rather than guessing at the URL.
Use or deploy the agent
Once authorization succeeds, the client can execute tasks like 'summarize last week's training load from my Intervals data' or 'draft a readiness note for tomorrow'. You can revoke its access at any time from MyTrainPal Settings.
The MCP server block the agent needs
If you are editing the agent spec directly instead of relying on the quickstart, the MCP server entry should look like this:
mcp_servers: - name: mytrainpal url: https://mytrainpal.app/api/mcp type: url
The client then discovers OAuth metadata and opens browser authorization when needed. Do not paste access tokens into YAML or prompts.
When a Managed Agent beats a one-off chat
| Scenario | Managed Agent with MCP | Plain Claude chat |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly training report | Runs on a schedule, pulls fresh Intervals data each time, delivers a consistent report. | You re-describe the data and paste screenshots every week. |
| Custom readiness score | The agent reads your recent wellness and load data and applies your own rules. | You copy numbers into chat by hand and hope the prompt is consistent. |
| Race-day briefing | Scheduled or triggered the night before, uses real planned session data. | Starts from a blank prompt each time, no memory of your training context. |
Troubleshooting the connection
The agent reports no tools or cannot reach the MCP server.
Check that https://mytrainpal.app/api/mcp is the exact URL in the client configuration, then reconnect and complete browser authorization. A typo or canceled consent is the most common cause.
The agent returns empty results for recent activities.
Confirm your Intervals.icu connection is active in MyTrainPal and that activities have synced. The MCP server can only expose data that MyTrainPal already has.
Authentication errors when the agent calls a tool.
Reconnect the client and complete the browser authorization flow. Check that your paid plan is active and that the client requested the scope required by the tool.
The generated agent spec has the wrong MCP URL.
Regenerate it with https://mytrainpal.app/api/mcp in the prompt explicitly, or edit the mcp_servers block in the spec to use that URL.
Where people take this next
Once the basic agent is working, the extension points tend to be automation and personalization. Athletes wire the agent to email or a messaging platform so the weekly report lands without manual prompting, or they encode their own readiness algorithm so the agent's answer reflects how they actually make decisions.
Because the data is coming through MCP rather than being pasted in, the same agent keeps working as your training calendar changes — you do not have to rebuild the prompt every time your week looks different.
Frequently asked questions
Common questions about setup and how the feature works.
Do I need a paid MyTrainPal plan to use the MCP server?
Yes. MCP access requires an active Plus, Pro, or Coach subscription. You also need an active Intervals.icu connection so there is data to read.
Is my Intervals.icu API key exposed to Claude?
No. MyTrainPal handles the Intervals.icu connection internally. The MCP client receives only MyTrainPal OAuth tokens, which are scoped and audience-bound to the MCP server.
Can I use the same setup with other MCP-aware clients?
Yes. The endpoint works with MCP clients that support OAuth 2.1 protected-resource discovery, including Codex and Claude Code. Managed Agents are one option when their platform supports the same browser authorization flow.
How do I disconnect an MCP client?
Open MyTrainPal Settings, find the connected app, and select Revoke. Its access and refresh grant are invalidated immediately; reconnecting requires fresh browser authorization.
Can the agent write changes back to Intervals.icu?
Yes. The MCP server exposes authenticated write tools for supported MyTrainPal coach actions such as scheduling, updating, and deleting records. Clients should ask for confirmation before invoking write or destructive tools, and connected integrations follow the app's normal sync behavior.
